Here is some of the software you will need:
Steps:
- Install Camstudio
- Install Xvid codec
- Open Camstudio and go to Video Options and select the Xvid Codec

- Select your audio option. I mainly use no sound, but use Microphone if you want to add commentry or Speakers if you want the game sounds.

- Select the area to record. When using the Xvid codec your width and height must be divisible by 2, otherwise you either get an error or video will look wrong. To ensure this is correct it is best to choose fixed region and enter the dimensions you want first.

- Press Record and then move the Rectangle to the area you wish to record.
- Press Stop to finish recording, important to wait while it is processing and enter the filename when it pops up. Don't do what I did and press ESC and dismiss the window without saving. I found an option which automatically sets a filename based on the time, which will help avoid embarsingly losing the video.
That's your basic capture done. You can now edit your video with your favourite editting software.
Some free editors that I have found useful for different purposes are:
- Virtualdub for cutting and re-encoding. The bulk of your finished video size will be audio as it does not seem to compress it, even when you select no sound, this program you can strip out the sound or compress it.
- Wax for adding headings and transition effect.
